Body Repairs

Know your rights when getting your vehicle repaired

When you're behind the wheel of your Mazda, the last thing you want is to need repairs due to an accident. But accidents are a part of life! If one happens, make sure you understand your rights.

You have the right to know whether your insurance company plans to repair your vehicle using original Mazda parts or imitation parts.
Ask your adjuster if any unbranded parts have been specified for your vehicle. Lower-cost parts are often selected automatically when estimates are computer-generated. Remember, there's no guarantee that generic parts will match the quality of original Mazda equipment.

You have the right to demand that your vehicle be repaired with original Mazda parts

Your Mazda might not be repaired with original parts--UNLESS you specifically request it! Before the estimate is made or parts are ordered, insist that your body shop and insurance adjuster order genuine Mazda parts. If your adjuster refuses, contact your agent for assistance. If your insurer still won't allow original parts, ask your repair shop about your rights. You may also contact your provincial insurance superintendent or a consumer protection agency. The contact info for your provincial insurance superintendent can be found in the blue pages of your phone book.

Choose quality!
Don't compromise the quality of your Mazda! If your vehicle is in a collision, make sure it stays a true Mazda by using only original Mazda parts. They're the only ones that ensure your Mazda's quality, appearance, finish, fit, performance, safety, and corrosion resistance remain the same after the accident as before.

What to do in case of an accident

ARE YOU INJURED? Are your passengers or others hurt? First, assist any unconscious individuals if needed. Don't move them unless they're in immediate danger.
MOVE TO A SAFE SPOT and ask others to do the same. Move vehicles off the road if possible. Have someone warn oncoming traffic about the accident.
CALL FOR HELP. Ask someone to call the police and, if necessary, an ambulance. Be sure to inform police if anyone is injured or might later claim injury.
IDENTIFY YOURSELF to the police, other drivers, and any injured individuals. Provide your insurance company name, your agent's name, and your policy number.
IDENTIFY OTHERS INVOLVED. Use the accident report form included with this brochure to collect all the necessary info. Also write down the names of all occupants in each vehicle involved.
DO NOT DISCUSS THE ACCIDENT. Avoid discussing the accident or liability with others involved--either at the scene or afterward. Only talk to the police or a representative from your insurance company.
THE MAZDA ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM covers towing and emergency expenses for eligible vehicles. (Check your Mazda Roadside Assistance brochure or talk to your dealer for coverage details and eligibility.)
CONTACT YOUR AGENT OR INSURANCE COMPANY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Provide accident details and ask about the next steps.
REPORT THE ACCIDENT to the police or relevant authorities as required by your province's laws.
